Asce
Networks' Omnirange Plus Firewall Proves Impenetrable in Independent
Hacking Competition
25th Oct. 2001
MUNICH, Germany -- Oct. 24, 2001 -
During the daily program "Live Hacking" at the IT-Security
Forum of the Systems trade show, Asce Networks' high availability
firewall, Omnirange Plus, was one of the few security solutions
that remained completely unpenetrated, fully protecting its user's
network from attack.
During the demonstration, Sebastian
Schreiber, managing director of security detection company SySS,
attempted to penetrate the networks of exhibitors in hall B1, an
area nearly exclusively comprising vendors of IT security solutions
and services. The result showed security leaks and features making
it easy for hackers to penetrate the networks among the majority
of the 100 attacked companies. A positive exception was Netstuff,
which secured its systems with two firewalls, including Asce Networks'
high availability firewall, Omnirange Plus. Omnirange Plus, incorporating
answering scans among other technology, did not allow any of the
attempted penetrations.
During the hacking demonstration, the
majority of attacks were successful, as many companies were not
secured at all and offered full hard disk access. "It looks
as if the old saying about shoemakers wearing the worst shoes is
valid here too," commented Schreiber after his show. He said
this example proves that security companies preach one thing and
often act differently.
Security thanks to Omnirange Plus
Asce Networks, however, backs up its corporate goal to Enable the
Secure, Highly Available Enterprise (SM) by providing the latest
technology to protect corporate information assets. During the hacking
demonstration, Omnirange Plus blocked all penetration attempts and
methods into the Netstuff network, including port scans, attacks
with hacker tools available via the Internet, via standard operating
system releases and scans with well known security scan engines.
Asce Networks' Omnirange Plus is the first wholly integrated firewall
to offer high availability and dynamic load balancing between various
ISP connections. The first integration between operating system
and firewall grants maximum security, high throughput and fail-over
for in- and outbound network traffic. The Asce Networks firewall
has been commercially available since June 2001.
SySS is located in Tübingen, Germany
and works with companies to execute aimed penetrations at their
networks to detect and remove possible security leaks. Netstuff
AG is a pan-European retail and service company for network security
and internet technologies, providing consulting, security assessments
and selected security systems.
