Asce
Networks Extends Multi-Enterprise VPN Capability, Improves Performance
in Omnirange Plus High Availability Firewall
29th Oct. 2001
Omnirange Plus version 1.6 allows secure e-business
interconnection
GAITHERSBURG, MD,Oct. 29, 2001-Asce
Networks, Inc., a leading provider of mission-critical e-Business
infrastructures, today released version 1.6 of Omnirange Plus, the
company's high availability firewall/VPN solution. The new version
extends Omnirange Plus' support of remote users and VPNs by offering
network address translation (NAT) with VPN connections and VPN client
support of remote NAT devices, plus performance enhancements that
allow more than one million simultaneous connections.
When enterprises need to be interconnected
to conduct tightly coupled e-business or when companies merge or
acquire other companies, setting up inter-company or intra-company
VPNs places additional strain on network infrastructure design.
With Omnirange Plus' multi-enterprise VPN capabilities, VPN-connected
networks continue to use existing private IP address spaces. This
eliminates the need to re-assign IP addresses on one end of the
VPN; traffic flows from one side of the VPN tunnel to the other
with minimal configuration changes. With large, complex networks,
this can save an administrator days of work and potential network
downtime during the reconfiguration.
In addition, VPN clients must be easily
configurable and manageable. They must be able to connect into the
corporate network through high-speed home connections such as DSL
and cable modems. Additionally, business travelers must be able
to use high-speed services in hotels or airport lounges to connect
via their PCs to their corporate networks with all the benefits
of a secure VPN connection. One of the biggest manageability concerns
has to do with the distribution of authentication certificates,
while at the same time, maintaining a high degree of control of
the entire security infrastructure.
Hybrid and certificate-based authentication
offer far greater security than traditional password protection;
a built-in certificate authority issues client certificates based
on standard public key infrastructure (PKI) models, eliminating
the need for third-party certificate authorities.
Omnirange Plus version 1.6 VPN client
allows remote devices running Microsoft® Windows® to securely
connect the corporate firewall.
Additional improvements to Omnirange
Plus 1.6 include performance increases that enable more than one
million simultaneous connections or 5,000 simultaneous IPSec tunnels,
a more than three-fold increase over previous versions.
"The newest version of Omnirange
Plus represents a tremendous security advantage for enterprises
with remote and mobile workers needing secure access to corporate
resources, while pushing the envelope on VPN price/performance,"
said Bob Collins, Asce Networks, Inc. CEO.
