The serial ports support a wide range of user and
network protocols, including SNA, async, X.25 and Frame Relay at
line speeds up to 2.048 Mbps.
Three types of plug-in Serial Port Modules are available
to meet the demands of evolving networks. Each module provides a
single port that conforms to V.24 (EIA-232D), V.35 or X.21 standards,
and can be mounted in any of the chassis' eight slots. A serial
expansion module (SEM) may be required. Up to eight Serial Port
Modules can be supported by the Climax950, Climax960 and Climax2000.
Operational Features
- Supports a wide range of user devices and
protocols including Frame Relay, X.25, SNA/SDLC, Async, PPP or
Transparent HDLC per port providing ability to change protocols
quickly, just by changing the port configuration.
- Provides access, concentration and switching for
Frame Relay and X.25 networks for full networking flexibility.
- Fully SNMP-manageable using CXView, Asce Networks'
Java-based management system for monitoring, statistics collection
and billing information.
- Configurable using Asce Networks' user friendly
object-oriented graphical user interface, CXTool.
- Requires SEM (serial expansion module) when installed
in slots 5 to 8.
PROTOCOL SUPPORT
Frame Relay (V.35, X.21, V.24)
- From 16 to 4000 active DLCIs per Climax950.
- Up to 256 remotes for routing and bridging.
- Full link management support LMI, Annex D, Annex
A; also configurable without link management (link always active).
- Auto-LMI detection for "plug and play"
configuration.
- Supports UNI-U, UNI-N, NNI
- Extensive statistics per port and per circuit.
- Full congestion management per port and at the DLCI
level using CIR, Bc and Be to ensure timely transmission of critical
data.
- Voice packet recognition capability to avoid discarding
or delaying voice packets.
- Data compression option to optimize bandwidth usage.
- Supports RFC 1490 multiprotocol encapsulation and
PVC consolidation to optimize DLCI usage and reduce recurring
line costs.
- Multicast one way, two ways, n ways.
- Alternate routing per circuit provides redundancy
to ensure network uptime.
- Dial back-up support (by analog modem or ISDN).
SNA/SDLC (V.24, V.35, X.25)
- SNA/SDLC local spoofing to reduce overhead
on network.
- Up to 128 controllers per unit.
- Physical unit emulation: PU1, PU2, PU2.1, PU4 and
PU5.
- SDLC to Frame Relay conversion and encapsulation;
SDLC-LLC2 conversion; LLC2/BNN (Boundary Node Network); LLC2/BAN
(Boundary Access Node); SDLC to QLLC/X.25 over Frame Relay.
- SDLC to ATM
X.25 (X.21, V.24, V.35)
- At X.25 Link Level, supports LAPB, DTE or
DCE; Modulo 8 or 128.
- At X.25 Network Level, supports Modulo 8 or 128,
X.121 addressing; SVCs, PVCs; M, D, and Q bits.
- CCITT X.25 facilities including flow control negotiation;
throughput class negotiation; incoming/outgoing calls barred;
one-way LCs incoming or outgoing; CUG (Closed User Group); reverse
charging and reverse charge acceptance; local charge prevention;
charging information; fast select and fast select acceptance;
NUI (network user identification); Hunt group; call redirection;
transit delay indication; packet size from 16 to 1024 bytes.
- X.25 to ATM
Async (V.24, X.21, V.35)
- Supports CCITT recommendations X.3, X.28
and X.29
- Async to X.25 PAD support
- Async to Frame Relay (async to X.25 over Frame Relay)
