The Multi-Port I/O Module is ideal for serial asynchronous
or synchronous applications in remote or regional sites supporting
a wide range of user and network protocols, including SNA/SDLC,
Bisync 3270, Async, X.25 and Frame Relay.

Multi-I/O Modules are capable of supporting five serial
V.24 synchronous or asynchronous connections per card. They support
speeds of up to 128 Kbps per V.24 connector on synchronous applications
and 115 Kbps for Async applications.
Up to 5 Multi-I/O modules can be installed in a Climax900e,
for a total of 25 serial connections.
Up to 7 Multi-I/O modules can be installed in a Climax950
or a Climax960, for a total of 35 serial connections.
Up to eight Multi-I/O modules can be installed in a
Climax2000, for a total of 40 Asynchronous or Synchronous V.24 serial
connections.
Operational Features
- Supports a wide range of user devices and protocols,
including Frame Relay, X.25, SNA/SDLC, Async, Bisync 3270 or Transparent
HDLC per port providing ability to change protocols quickly, just
by changing the port configuration.
- Ideal for regional branch offices requiring legacy
protocol concentration.
- DTE/DCE user configurable for each serial port.
- Supports connectivity to external devices through
an octopus cable with one DB-60 connector and five DB-25 female
connectors.
- Fully SNMP-manageable using CXView, Asce Networks'
Java-based management system for monitoring, statistics collection
and billing information.
- Configurable using Asce Networks' user friendly
object-oriented graphical user interface, CXTool.
PROTOCOL SUPPORT
Frame Relay
- From 16 to 4000 active DLCIs per Climax950.
- Up to 256 remotes for routing and bridging per Climax950.
- Full link management support LMI, Annex D, Annex
A; also configurable without link management (link always active).
- Auto-LMI detection for 'plug and play' configuration.
- Supports UNI-U, UNI-N, NNI.
- Extensive statistics per port and per circuit.
- Full congestion management per port and at the DLCI
level using CIR, Bc and Be, and prioritization per type of traffic
to ensure timely transmission of critical data.
- Voice packet recognition capability to avoid discarding
or delaying voice packets.
- Data compression to optimize bandwidth usage.
- Supports RFC 1490 multiprotocol encapsulation and
PVC consolidation to optimize DLCI usage and reduce recurring
line costs.
- Multicast one way, two ways, n ways.
- Alternate routing per circuit to provide redundancy
and ensure network uptime.
- Dial back-up support (analog modem or ISDN).
SNA/SDLC
- SNA/SDLC local spoofing to reduce overhead
on network.
- Up to 128 controllers per unit.
- Physical unit emulation: PU1, PU2, PU2.1, PU4 and
PU5.
- SDLC to Frame Relay conversion and encapsulation;
SDLC-LLC2 conversion; LLC2/BNN (Boundary Node Network); LLC2/BAN
(Boundary Access Node); SDLC to QLLC/X.25 over Frame Relay.
X.25
- At X.25 Link Level, supports LAPB, DTE or
DCE; Modulo 8 or 128.
- At X.25 Network Level, supports Modulo 8 or 128,
X.121 addressing; SVCs, PVCs; M, D, and Q bits.
- CCITT X.25 facilities including flow control negotiation;
throughput class negotiation; incoming/outgoing calls barred;
one-way LCs incoming or outgoing; CUG (Closed User Group); reverse
charging and reverse charge acceptance; local charge prevention;
charging information; fast select and fast select acceptance;
NUI (network user identification); Hunt group; call redirection;
transit delay indication; packet size from 16 to 1024 bytes.
Async
- Supports CCITT recommendations X.3, X.28
and X.29
- Async to X.25 PAD support
- Async to Frame Relay (async to X.25 over Frame Relay)
Bisync 3270
- Bisync 3270 local spoofing to reduce overhead on
network.
- Supports devices that transmit ASCII, EBCDIC and
transparent text.
- Supports up to 64 control units or 64 devices per
Climax950
- DSP emulation; converts between X.25 and Bisync
3270 data formats providing support for bisync traffic, or X.25
traffic from a front end processor.
Serial Expansion Module (SEM)
Required when a CSU/DSU, V.34 Modem; Serial Port Module, or Multi-Port
I/O Module is housed in slot 5, 6, 7 or 8. The SEM must also be
installed in the CLIMAX950 chassis for the Ethernet card to be functional
in slot 5.
