Performance Provisioning Solutions
Introduction
Asce Networks' NeuTrans provisioning solution allows enterprises
and service providers to add Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities
to their wide-area networks. The NeuTrans solution support distributed
policy servers and configures your existing network devices to deliver
predictable network performance.
NeuTrans features robust policy-based
management technology that allows you to use simple and powerful
business vocabulary to provision bandwidth and prioritize application
traffic. For example, business-critical ERP applications can be
given precedence over casual web browsing and time sensitive e-business
transactions can be guaranteed lower latency over delay-tolerant
applications like file transfers. This is a key factor to the success
of converged voice, video, and data networks. Any network that needs
to prioritize time critical traffic over non-time critical traffic
will find NeuTrans to be an essential component of its network infrastructure.
Benefits
Protect Critical Business Applications
Create several classes of service throughout your network. Each
class can be allocated a percentage of bandwidth on each of the
links managed by NeuTrans. Critical business applications can be
assigned to the highest service class and other traffic can be assigned
to lower classes of service.
Increase Revenue By Differentiating
Your Network Services
Service providers can offer a premium-priced "tiered access
service" that lets your subscribers self-provision their traffic
into several performance classes. Service providers can be more
competitive by allowing customers to determine which applications
should have the highest priority data transfer.
Provision Network Priority To Specific
User Groups
Allocate bandwidth to different groups of users. For example, e-businesses
might want to handle transactions from high volume customers with
a higher priority than low volume customers.
Anticipate the Future By Gaining
Control of Your Network Now
Bandwidth requirements for future network applications can't be
predicted. NeuTrans lets you dynamically control where bandwidth
should be allocated, identify which applications are most important,
and easily accommodate new applications by simply modifying the
business policy rules.
Provision Bandwidth Based On Time
of Day
Author and edit business policies based on an important time of
day. For example, the weekly videoconference between the New York
and San Francisco offices can be allocated 128 KBPS every Monday
morning between 9:00AM and 10:00AM.
Rapidly Provision Network Changes
Changes in the network no longer have to be a time-consuming and
error-prone headache. NeuTrans allows you to rapidly configure thousands
of network devices in a matter of seconds.
Empower Your Staff
Optimize existing network resources without creating additional
burdens on your network management staff. NeuTrans simplifies complicated
configuration tasks while reducing manual labor and minimizing operational
errors.
Networked Applications Signal Their
Bandwidth Needs
NeuTrans supports COPS-RSVP, which enables RSVP-aware applications
(e.g., Microsoft NetMeeting) to dynamically signal bandwidth requirements
to the network. Policy Rules written in NeuTrans control the acceptance/denial
of such bandwidth requests.

Features
Carrier-Class Scalability
NeuTrans scales to handle thousands of network devices. Our architecture
provides centralized management and distributed Policy Server execution.
NeuTrans scales as your network grows.
Adaptive Policy Technology
Every Asce Networks Policy Server contains our Adaptive Policy technology.
This allows our servers to dynamically adapt to changes in your
network infrastructure. QoS capabilities are highly dependent upon
vendor type, model number, technology type, and software version.
The Adaptive Policy technology automatically learns this information
and ensures that NeuTrans will dynamically adapt to network changes.
Policy Persistence
NeuTrans guarantees consistent business policy rule enforcement
throughout the network. Any router, or network device, changes that
affect policy rule enforcement which are made from outside of the
NeuTrans system (e.g., from other management consoles or Telnet
sessions) are automatically discovered and reverted back to the
correct configuration.
Open Interfaces
NeuTrans easily integrates with other management and operational
support systems. A rich set of interfaces are supported including:
SNMP, LDAP, COPS, XML, Call Data Records file export. Custom application
programming interfaces (APIs) are provided using the XML protocol.
Rock Solid Fault Tolerance
Every component of the system is fully redundant with automatic
hot standby components. The Policy Administrator can be deployed
in a primary/secondary configuration; if the primary fails, the
secondary automatically takes over without any loss of information.
Every Policy Server can be deployed in a primary/secondary configuration.
If the primary fails then one or more secondary Policy Servers will
take over for the failed Policy Server without any loss of information.
Policy Servers can run in primary, secondary or dual primary/secondary
configurations.
Device Driver SDK
NeuTrans comes equipped with a device driver software development
kit (SDK) that allows you and/or Asce Networks to quickly develop
support for future network devices.
COPS Standards Compliant
NeuTrans interoperates across multi-vendor networks and is fully
compatible with COPS-PR and COPS-RSVP standards.
Secure Communication
All communication between NeuTrans components runs over secure Triple
DES encrypted connections. This ensures that unauthorized commands
will never be received by any of the NeuTrans components.
Product Components:
Asce Networks is committed to delivering the simplest, most cost-effective
road to predictable network performance. To accomplish this effectively,
we have designed a fully distributed hardware solution. The three
components are a Management Console/Policy Administrator, a Policy
Server and Proxy Agent. Together, they allow performance provisioning
to be achieved with minimal manual effort.
Management Console/Policy
Administrator
This user interface provides access to the Policy Administrator
to support rule creation and management, scheduling, and system
configuration. The user interface enables policy definitions to
span across the entire NeuTrans domain.
The Policy Administrator is the central point of administration,
providing a unified point of policy enforcement status and functional
status for a single managed domain. The Policy Administrator controls
multiple Policy Servers, automatically distributing policy updates
and correlating feedback.
Policy Server
The Asce Networks Policy Server controls multiple network devices
such as routers, switches, and edge devices. The Policy Server authorizes
the allocation of network resources based on administratively defined
policy rules, and enforces and monitors the allocation of QoS throughout
its controlled domain.
